Job description:
Overall Job Purpose:
Reporting to the Belting Superintendent, you will be responsible for assisting in establishment of preventative and responsive Conveyor Belting maintenance and development within the process area and across the site, to ensure maximum operational performance is achieved in a safe and cost effective manner while ensuring compliance with relevant procedures, polices, legal requirements and consent conditions. Your duties will include but are not limited to the following.
Specific Job Responsibilities:

This position will be required to adhere to all relevant requirements, policies, procedures and legal regulations pertaining to health, safety, environment and quality, as well as finance, human resources, and any other regulations as required by the company and relevant to the level of the role and responsibilities of the function.

Installation
Installation of new conveyor belts, replacement of old, damaged or ripped conveyor belts as per FQM Trident and vendor’s safety and quality specifications.

Safe Guarding of Equipment

Ensure that all Belt spilicing equipment have the correct hardware interlock and safety parameter settings for effective and safe operation.

Maintenance

Adhere to the companies planned and preventative maintenance schedules and procedures.
Effectively maintain the electrical equipment with the minimum effect on the plant production.

Reporting and record keeping

Report all incidents immediately to the Superintendent.
Ensure that all Safety and substation logbooks are checked and signed according to the procedure.

Stock Control

Ensure that stock levels of electrical equipment are maintained in the warehouse and report all defective or substandard equipment to your direct Superintendent.

Tools and audit

Maintain the correct and safe usage of all hand tools within your section
Report all defective tools, record and control all replacement of tools.

Training and development
Identify needs for specialised training requirements within your area.

Other duties
Any other duties as directed by the Conveying and Belt Splicing Superintendent.

Job Specific Competencies:

Troubleshooting
Experience in high voltage equipment
Experience in SPV and RAB press vulcanizing equipment.
Demonstrated application of continuous improvement ideas
Ability to quickly adapt to technological changes in Maintenance.
Demonstrated ability to work safely and improve team safety awareness.
Able to diagnose problems and potential problems.
Certification in rubber ceramic and conveyor belt splicing.
Member of the Engineering Institution of Zambia (EIZ)

Planning & assisting in laying out of work on new project.

A proven ability to work with other disciplines to achieve minimal disruption to plant operating times

Experience required to perform in this job:

Minimum 10 years’ experience in a Mining environment working at supervisory level
Hands on skills and experience with large multi skill operations both ceramic & rubber being undertaken simultaneously within tight time restrictions exposure would be an advantage.
Demonstrable experience with fixed plant maintenance management systems will be an advantage.
Good knowledge on how to calculate site belt counterweight belt slack.
Reading and interpolate of belt structure drawings
Computer literate.

Qualifications:

Minimum of a Grade 12 Certificate
Conveyor belt splicing Technologist or Craft Certificate in rubber ceramic and splicing.
A minimum of the appropriate certification with experience in rubber & belt splicing repairs in fixed plant & workshop relining environments.
