USAID Alternatives to Charcoal – Zambia
The USAID-funded Alternatives to Charcoal (A2C) Activity in Zambia, implemented by Tetra Tech International Development (http://www.tetratech.com/intdev) is currently accepting expressions of interest for qualified candidates to fill various positions. This position will be located in the main office in Lusaka. The purpose of USAID A2C is to reduce charcoal energy consumption in Zambia and catalyze an increase in the use of private sector-led low emissions charcoal alternative technologies and/or fuels in order to reduce deforestation directly attributed to charcoal production.
Tetra Tech seeks experienced candidates for the following position:
Charcoal Legality Advisor
The Charcoal Legality Advisor contributes to efforts to strengthen charcoal enforcement efforts and support related policy initiatives in Zambia.
She/he will work closely with the Forestry Department to design and support outreach and trainings for forestry officers and other law enforcement officers to strengthen enforcement of policies and practices that will lead to reductions in charcoal production, transportation and distribution. She/he will work with the Social Behavior Change Communications (SBCC) Coordinator to develop effective advocacy and communications strategies to increase awareness of the negative environmental impact of charcoal production. The Charcoal Legality Advisor will liaise with the Government of Zambia (GRZ) Forestry Department and other stakeholders working on A2C-related issues, and will contribute to policy revision, development, and/or dialogue, as needed.
The Charcoal Legality Advisor reports directly to the Technical Director/ATF Team Lead.
Bachelor’s degree in Forestry or related field
A minimum of seven years of natural resource management policy experience in Zambia
Proven track record of collaborating with GRZ officials
Demonstrated knowledge and experience working on charcoal related issues in Zambia
Ability to develop and deliver training materials, contribute to research and provide input to written products including reports, policy analyses and assessments
Experience working with an international donor-funded project focused on promoting improving forest and natural resource management, or alternative energy sources preferred.
