Vacancy – A company in the hospitality industry, specialising in conferencing, events, restaurants and rooms, is looking to hire a Commis Chef.Applications are invited from suitably qualified candidates to fill this position.Job SummaryReporting to the Head and Sous Chefs, the Commis Chef is helps prepares food items and assists the Chef De Parties in preparing and cooking meals. The Commis chef participates in washing, peeling, and cutting the fruits and vegetables needed for meals. Seasoning, and preparing ingredients is also required in supporting the restaurant services.Key Performance Areas:Assisting in the food preparation processCooking and preparing elements of high-quality dishesPreparing vegetables, meats and fishAssisting other ChefsHelping with deliveries and restockingAssisting with stock rotation and cleaning stationsContributing to maintaining kitchen and food safety standardsQualifications:Full grade 12 twelve certificate or its equivalentMinimum of a Certificate in Food Production, Hotel Management or its equivalent.Possession of a valid food handlers.Work Experience:Minimum 6 months relevant experienceAwareness of food handling techniquesExperience of kitchen equipmentExperience of dangerous equipment such as knivesCompetent level of English spoken and written.Competencies:A successful commis must possess the following qualities;Adaptability to change and willingness to embrace new ideas and processesBasic understanding of health and safetyUnderstanding of basic food hygiene practicesGood oral communicationTeam player qualitiesBenefits:The successful candidate will be appointed on a fixed term contract, renewable subject to performance.
