Aller Aqua Zambia is seeking a highly analytical, meticulous and hands-on Environmental, Health and Safety EHS Superintendent with extensive experience in Environmental, Health and Safety Management.
This position is open to Zambians only.
Location: The role will be based at the Aller Aqua Feed Mill in Siavonga but may require occasional travel.
MAIN JOB PURPOSE
The EHS Superintendent will be responsible for the overall implementation and maintenance of the EHS Management System for the company. The position will afford an opportunity to implement both Group and Company policies and procedures as part of a class leading EHS management system and to discover opportunities for improving conditions on site. The ability to communicate well with a multidisciplinary workforce as well as authorities and external stakeholders is essential. The EHS Superintendent will report to the Aller Aqua Zambia Managing Director and FirstWave Group E&S Manager.
The Right-Fit candidate will participate in driving and facilitating the implementation of a fit for purpose EHS Management System and duties will include:

Leads and takes accountability for Environmental, Health and Safety (EHS) management for the company;
Managing the EHS regulatory requirements including maintaining permits, licences, including reporting as required and Liaison with regulatory authorities and coordination of authority site inspections;
Coordinate the overall implementation and maintenance of the EHS Management System to manage potential risks and impacts and continually improve the sustainability of our operations;
Monitor day to day activities on site to ensure that EHS policies and procedures are implemented and strictly adhered to and meet Aller Aqua and legislative requirements;
Develops and monitors EHS objectives and targets in line with broader Company and Group objectives;
Drives, assists with and collate general EHS risks assessments;
Responsible for emergency preparedness and response systems, including site specific emergency and evacuation procedures, emergency equipment management, drills, and contingency planning;
Provides specialist support to the relevant business teams;
Ensure that training needs are identified and deliver EHS training programs at the appropriate time to raise EHS awareness and ensure accountability for health and safety in the workplace;
Maintain best practice and knowledge base through networks within the wider EHS community internal and external;
Ensuring that all incidents are reported and investigated in accordance with legal requirements
Identify opportunities for continuous improvement and implement initiatives that foster a strong safety culture within the organisation;
Ensuring that on-site contractors are meeting the requisite standards;
Coordinate EHS communications including mandatory monthly EHS Management meetings;
Reviewing SOP’s and updating them on a continuous basis; and
Internal meeting participation and provision of subject matter expert direction and guidance where required.

Our EHS Superintendent should have:

A degree in Occupational Health and Safety or other relevant qualification to the professional duties to be undertaken;
Industry Experience: At least 5 years’ work experience in a similar industry;
Excellent working knowledge of all Zambian E&S Legislation and regulations pertaining EHS aspects;
Trained in SHE Function, Preliminary Incident investigation, ASHEP is an added advantage;
Must have working knowledge and experience of OHS Act and Compensation for
Occupational Injury and Disease Act, Factories Act, Environmental Legislation and other relevant legislation;
Trained in EHS Functions, Environmental Impact Assessment, Risk Assessment is an added advantage;
Ability to work well independently and in a team-based environment;
Ability to work a schedule outside business hours and/or flexible shifts; and
Good communication and interpersonal skills.

Judgment​: Demonstrate professional judgment, relate all information and data to management. 100% accuracy expected and must be prepared to discuss any issues that deviate from normal laboratory procedures.
