HEAD OF FACULTY – NATURAL SCIENCE & BIOLOGY TEACHER (01)
CRESTED CRANE ACADEMY is a private Co-education Boarding and Day school, from Nursery to Grade twelve.  Our VISION is to provide a holistic, excellent and affordable education at both national and international levels.  As CRESTED CRANE ACADEMY (CCA) we strive to prepare our young people for a rapidly changing 21st century work place and to enable them take up their place as confident citizens in this global world.
IN QUEST OF EXCELLENCE, we are looking for a dynamic, motivated, enthusiastic and qualified person in the role of ‘BIOLOGY TEACHER as a major in the role of Head of Faculty – Natural Sciences plus a minor in any other subject’.

JOB EXPECTATIONS
To provide high quality learning opportunities in the Department of Natural Sciences that will enable achieve the highest possible standards.  Prepare teaching tools, teach, administer, supervise team members in the faculty and advise senior staff.

Key tasks and activities include a team of teachers in your respective faculty.
Coordinate teaching and assessment activities in your faculty and other where possible
Overseeing teacher-beginners, appraising and developing staff members.
Chairing departmental meetings, monitoring student progress and instituting mitigations where need be
Be in contact with subject associations to ensure new trends n curriculum are made and known to team members and senior staff.
You are expected to contribute to school wide initiatives make a positive impart to the well-being of the school.
Evaluating academic programmes affecting your team members and proofing adjustment.
Getting involved in new staff appointments and promoting of members in your faculty.
Delegating tasks to your team and making plans to make your faculty excel.
You shall be responsible for dealing with complaints and resolving conflicts in your unity.
Making sure your team is exemplary in professional classroom organization
Hold to account in writing, any team member who frequently fails to adhere to set school policies as well challenge them in the aspects of discipline by using the available school disciplinary Code of Conduct.
Producing good academic results in your faculty and keeping up to date record of the same.

TEACHING AND LEARNING

Plan, prepare and deliver purposeful and productive lessons to assigned classes that meet the expectations of the syllabus.
Be prepared to innovate and devise imaginatively varied ways of teaching their subjects to inspire pupils.
Encourage pupils and show enthusiasm for their subject in the classroom.
Mark according to school marking policies, giving appropriate feedback and maintaining records of pupils’ progress in their subject.
Demonstrate an awareness of assessment for learning strategies and personalize the learning of all pupils, as appropriate.
Select and use a range of different learning resources and teaching styles, appropriate to subject and topic.
Participate in mutual lesson observations both within and beyond their department as a part of sharing best practice.
Use teaching strategies that allow for the full range of ability and learning styles in each class.
Research new topic areas and maintain up-to-date subject knowledge.
Undertake report writing and the award of students as required.
Prepare home works two weeks in advance and present it to Deputy Principal/Quality Assurance Managers for checking and monitoring.
Administer homework once per week or more and mark it as soon as it is presented by learners.
Prepare qualitative and quantitative notes with visible dates and possibly with authentic diagrams. And ensure frequent book-checks and guide learners to take good care of their exercise books.
Prepare and maintain charts that are current and representative.
Set standard exams/tests a month after opening of each new term.

IN THE DEPARTMENT    Must attend staff meetings, PTA meetings, CPD sessions/workshops and similar important events and functions both in and out of normal school hours and participate in the ‘Open Days’ for prospective parents/guardians and pupils/students as required.

Notify the Deputy Principal/Quality Assurance Managers/ Principal as early as possible if not attending school that time and set rigorous, appropriate work in absence, find a relief if possible.
To seek permission from the Deputy Principal/Quality Assurance Managers/ Principal if there is reason to leave the premises/school during school working hours.
Take part in school’s performance management scheme and appraisal on an annual basis.

AT SCHOOL

ALL Staff have a responsibility for promoting and safeguarding the welfare of children and young persons for whom they are responsible or with whom they come into contact and to adhere to and ensure compliance with the school’s ‘Child Protection Policy’ always.
If during the course of carrying out their duties the post holder becomes aware of any actual or potential risks to the safety or welfare of children in the school they must repost any concerns to the Principal of the school.

PASTORAL ATTRIBUTES

Ensure pupils/students are familiar with the school’s health and safety guidance and be mindful of their own health and safety and that of their pupils.
Be prepared to undertake the pastoral role of a class teacher.
Use the agreed School Student ‘Code of Conduct’, ‘Boarding Agreement’, ‘Suspension Declaration Form’ where applicable, ‘Indemnity Agreement’, ‘Anti Riotous Behavior’ ETC to manage pupil/student behavior in the classroom, establish an orderly working environment, ensure the safety and good conduct of the pupils and promote a high expectation, no excuses culture with students.
To challenge students in and outside the classroom on aspects of indiscipline using the applicable agreements/codes approach.

OTHER PROFESSIONAL DUTIES

Conduct themselves in an appropriate professional manner at all times.
Support and foster the aims and values of the school.
Make themselves familiar with the contents of the Code of Conduct, the Department Expectations/ Hand Book, Teacher’s Code of Conduct, the school’s aims and policies and endeavor to follow these closely.
Carry out regular scheduled duties, including cover for absent colleagues and examination invigilation, as are allocated to them by the Deputy Principal/Quality Assurance Managers.
Contribute imaginatively to the co-curricular, extra –curricular and sporting programmes of the school as required by the school, and be prepared to run or assist with activities beyond lesson time and on Saturdays when required.
Take part in the school’s performance management scheme and appraisal on an annual basis.

QUALIFICATIONS
Must have a full Grade 12 Certificate with 5 ‘O’ Levels including Mathematics, English and Biology.  A Bachelor’s Degree in Sciences OR Related field of its equivalent.  Candidate should not be less than 30 years of age.  Must have a valid practicing certificate from Teaching Council of Zambia (TCZ) and not proof of payment.  Should be able to conduct on-line lessons proficiently
WORK EXPERIENCE
Minimum of five years’ work experience in a reputable school.  Should be able to work under pressure. The applicant should also have an interest in learners’ affairs holistically and spiritually.    Must have three traceable references and or recommendations.
