The Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) GmbH is the implementing agency of the Federal Republic of Germany for technical and international cooperation. It offers flexible, sustainable and effective solutions in political, economic and social change processes. Most of the work of GIZ is commissioned by the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ). GIZ also operates on behalf of other German ministries as well as European and international institutions. These include the European Commission, the United Nations, USAID and governments of other countries.
GIZ Office Zambia provides financial and administrative services to GIZ projects and programmes in Zambia as well as other countries in the region. In order to meet the growing needs of its expanding portfolio, GIZ is seeking a suitable candidate for the following position:
(Junior) Accounting Specialist (Lusaka based)
REF:    JrCO
Main responsibilities:

Ensuring that financial administration functions are well in accordance with GIZ rules and regulations
Ensuring the accurate inflow and outflow of money at the bank and in the cashbox

Tasks
The position includes the following tasks and responsibilities:
1. Cash Handling

maintains and manages the cash box and maintains the cash book software, monitors the daily cash flow record and the level of liquidity
arranges and executes payments and their administration (cheque/cash/bank transfer)
updates the cash book and the bank book daily
prepares proper receipts
controls the remaining balance of the bank account
exports cash books and bank books using WINPACCS cash book into the WINPACCS Cloud and hands over vouchers on a weekly basis to the officer responsible for booking office journals

2. Financial administration

liaises regularly with colleagues in the finance unit on matters relating to cash flow
reports immediately all problems relating to financial administration and compliance to the Head of Finance

Qualifications and requirements:

Minimum of  CA 1, ACCA 1, Diploma in Accounting and a member of the Zambia Institute of Chartered Accountants (ZICA)

Professional experience

At least 2 years’ professional experience in accounting or a comparable position

Other knowledge, additional competences

Good working knowledge of ICT (i.e. related software, telephone, email, internet, etc.) and computer applications
Must maintain the highest standards of accuracy, confidentiality and integrity in the handling of payments and information
Fluency in English, both written and oral
Must be highly adaptable, proactive and able to work to tight deadlines
Excellent numerical and communication skills
Willingness to upskill as required by the tasks to be performed – corresponding measures to be agreed with management

The successful candidate will be expected to start full-time employment with GIZ as soon as possible.
