POSITION: Matron of Children’s Home
CLASSIFICATION: Operational/Administrative/ Full Time
REPORTS TO: Executive Director of Ebenezer Child Care Trust
MISSION:
The mission of this role is to oversee the organisation’s orphanage where we have 46 children living, ranging from new-born babies to adolescents. The Matron will be responsible for supporting and supervising the house mothers who look after the children on a daily basis.
GOALS and OBJECTIVES:
1. The Matron will need to make sure that the homes are safe/secure and clean and appropriate for children to live in.
2. The Matron will oversee the overall requirements of the orphanage in terms of food supplies, equipment and all the childcare that is necessary for children to thrive.
3. The Matron will need to be able to challenge any inappropriate behaviour within the orphanage and have the skill-set that will develop well-mannered and well-adjusted thriving children.
4. The Matron will be required to identify training needs and skills gaps within the team of house mothers and provide solutions in conjunction with the Executive Director and management team.
5. The Matron will be directly accountable to the Executive Director.
QUALIFICATIONS:
The ideal candidate should hold at least a minimum / Social Work certificate/diploma / degree or any related qualification and must have at least five years’ experience of working with children/babies.
It is essential that the applicant is an effective leader and can delegate where necessary, however they must also be a team player and be able to nurture, train and develop staff as appropriate. Excellent communication skills both in the written and spoken word as well as good organizational skills are required.
NB: A special consideration will be given to candidates with Social Work Training
