Mental Health Nurse Responsibilities

Building relationships with clients and assessing their clinical and other needs
Ensure medication is taken properly
Planning nursing requirements
Liaising with internal multi-disciplinary teams
Updating client records
Respond to distressed clients in a non-threatening manner and attempt to understand the source of their discomfort
Help clients manage their emotions through de-escalation techniques
Identify whether or when clients are at risk of harming themselves or others
Obtain lab specimens
Assist physicians with exams
Schedule and arrange for special tests

Mental Health Nurse Requirements

Diploma/Degree in nursing with specialism in mental health or equivalent
2 years practicing experience
Full registration with the General Nursing Council of Zambia
Excellent observational skills
Outstanding communication skills
Decision making and time management
Emotional resilience and empathy
