The USAID Business Enabling Project (“the Project”) is a five-year (2022-2027) USAID-funded project that aims to catalyze greater gender equality and inclusive private sector investment and trade in rural Zambia. The Project will support creation of an enabling environment that incentivizes productive investments in trade, agriculture, energy, eco-tourism/sustainable natural resource management.
The Project has issued this advertisement to invite interested and qualified Zambian citizens to apply for this short-term internship opportunity. Women are strongly encouraged to apply.
The Internship:
This internship offers an opportunity to gain valuable experience in policy advocacy, project management, and stakeholder engagement in the context of economic development. The Intern will also have the opportunity to work with a dynamic and experienced team of professionals and develop skills that can be applied to future career opportunities. A modest stipend will be provided to cover transport expenses during the internship period.
Scope of Work:
1.     Administrative Support:

Provide administrative support to the Project Chief of Party (COP) and Deputy Chief of Party (DCOP), or to Technical Component Leads as directed by the COP or DCOP, such as scheduling meetings, taking minutes, drafting short write ups, organize contacts and maintaining the calendar.
Attend meetings and conferences on behalf of the project and taking detailed minutes, notes or write ups.
Assist in project coordination by liaising with different departments, scheduling team meetings, and maintaining project documentation online and hardcopy.
Compile daily news articles relevant to project activities and share with team

2.     Policy Analysis

Conduct preliminary data collection and analysis for use in policy advisory notes.
Assist with preliminary policy and situational analysis in position papers meant to bring out more information to aid decision-making by the project.
Assist in preparing reports especially on information collected from field work.
Assist with preparing for stakeholder engagements and trainings at district level.
Assist with preparing for and conducting training sessions for business associations on policy lobbying and information packaging to improve the effectiveness.

3.     Miscellaneous Tasks:

Perform other tasks as assigned by the CoP.
Intern may be seconded to offer support to partner organization.


Skilled in data analysis and reporting.
Strong organizational and time-management skills.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite.
Willingness to learn and take on new responsibilities.
Prior administrative or project coordination experience is a plus.


The internship will last for 6 months/weeks, starting on 10th April 2023 and ending on 09th October 2023.


The Intern will report to the CoP, who will provide guidance, feedback, and mentorship throughout the internship.


Bachelor of Arts Degree in Development Studies, Social Work, Political Science, International Relations, or a related field is required.
Basic knowledge of Tourism, Energy, Agriculture and Trade policy environment is relevant but not required.
Excellent research, writing, and analytical skills.
Demonstrated interest in policy advocacy, gender mainstreaming, public private dialogue, business enabling environment or related fields.
Experience with event planning, stakeholder engagement, and project management is a plus.
Fluency in English; knowledge of local languages is desirable.


The Intern will be based in the project’s office in Lusaka, with possibility of occasional travel to provinces outside Lusaka.
Candidate must be based in Lusaka and able to report to the Project Office in Kabulonga.
