Job Description:

Relationship Manager- Trade Finance is responsible for the development of trade finance products as well as structuring trade finance facilities with relation to importers requirements and local general merchants/traders that require trade instruments to facilitate business growth.
Reports to the Head of Corporate Banking & Trade Sales.
Role and Responsibilities

Constantly review the banks trade finance products, product programs, process and pricing to ensure UBA trade finance offering is competitive and in line with market requirements/reality
Involved in the structuring of Letter of Credit, Guarantees, Bid and Performance Bond, APGs etc. in conjunction with RMs and business Heads for overall benefit of the bank.
Identify opportunities in import and local trade including partnering with strategic agents in order to grow the banks trade finance portfolio.
 Facilitate and assist in trade finance product development and knowledge dissemination across the bank
Ensure that structures, systems and resources required to effectively service foreign trade customers are in place
Implement defined strategy (short and long term) in line with targets defined in the business plan.
Monitor and study the commodities markets closely in order to provide advice to customers on what to buy and sell at the right time.
Maintain up-to-date knowledge of competitive offering in the market. Keep an eye on the market in relation to product and investment pricing, trends and demands
Address issues affecting sales/performance as highlighted by customers or relationship managers
Liaising with internal stakeholders including group trade finance department and group correspondent bank to negotiate best pricing for the subsidiary to maximize margins. Monitoring the trade service unit as per the SLA requirements, conducting SLA reviews and provide timely feedback
Maintain high level of customer-contact through joint and individual client calls, meetings, and seminars.
Facilitation and execution of documents related to Structured Trade Facilities such as RPA documents, CMA documentation, and TPHC/SWC requests, and follow up with title documents from collateral managers.
Facilitation of Release Orders for various products upon sight of funds or otherwise as agreed with the client
Reconciliation of stocks against cash / loan positions
Liaising with Trade Services for efficient transaction processing to ensure superior customer service by minimizing complaints and disputes.
Percentage attainment of annual targets (risk assets, fees & commission, client conversations)
Timeliness and effectiveness in completion of assigned tasks in line with agreed SLAs
Regulatory and Policy Compliance


Good knowledge of Economics and Finance
Good customer care and relationship building
Strong background in commodities trading
Knowledge of Local and International trade, and supply chain
Intermediate knowledge of credit
Knowledge of banking operations, the banks products

Minimum Education Qualifications

Minimum of a first degree in a business related field from a recognized University with at least a Credit or better.
Grade Twelve Certificate with at least Five (05) Credits of better, including Mathematics and English.
