Zambia Sugar Plc. is a subsidiary of Illovo Sugar Africa (Pty) Ltd Group and is the leading sugar producer in Zambia.  Its main activities are the growing of sugar cane, the production and marketing of sugar and other sugar downstream products.
The Company invites applications from suitably qualified and experienced persons to fill the following position:
SHERQ OFFICER – FACTORY x 1
The position reports to the Safety, Health, Environmental, Risk and Quality (SHERQ) Manager. The successful candidate will be responsible for implementing SHERQ and Food safety performance and related standards, systems, processes and applicable legislative/ regulatory requirements and promote SHERQ culture and requirements.
KEY PERFORMANCE AREAS

Coach and guide line management in assessment, management and continuous improvement of SHERQ and Food Safety performance.
Facilitate SHERQ and Food Safety investigations and coordinate the verification of closeout actions.
Facilitate the closeout of audit findings
Create SHERQ awareness using various fit for purpose media (e.g. toolbox talks, noticeboards, electronic media)
Develop SHERQ capability in contractors and seasonal workers, through facilitation of safety induction training / design materials
Manage SHERQ induction Processes, through effective planning, facilitation and co-ordination
Conduct inspections and internal audits to oversee and ensure adherence to legislative requirements
Maintain external assurance systems through creating and updating procedures, communicating changes to procedures and auditing compliance
Implement and drive the implementation of SHERQ programmes and plans specific to area of responsibility (e.g. water usage plan)
Develop monitoring schedules to ensure compliance with statutory requirements for safety, environment, food safety and occupational health
Test and validate inputs into the ABF Annual HSE reporting process to reduce likelihood of findings
Compile SHERQ management reports
Coordinate effective testing of emergency response protocols
Track SHERQ inspections and facilitate effective closeout
Ensure effective SHE and Food Safety committee meetings are conducted according to schedule
Create awareness of safety in communities within and around the Estate (e.g. Schools, Villages in the boundary)
Promote and adhere to Group’s procedures, policies and guidelines, including without limitation, those relating to Safety Health Environment Risk and Quality (SHERQ), Competition Law and Anti-Bribery and Corruption (ABC).

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

Diploma in Safety / Quality Management / Risk Management or related area; A Bachelors’ Degree and ISO 900 / 22 000 Lead Auditor qualification will be an advantage.
2 years’ experience in an operational environment (Factory / Agriculture), working in a health and safety role. Training in First Aid and Fire Prevention is added advantage
Knowledge of relevant SHERQ legislation and regulatory requirements
Ability to plan, organize and track activities for self and others
Problem solving and analytical skills
Administrative ability and attention to detail
Ability to communicate effectively and influence others.
